Springtime Activities To Do With Kids

We love springtime in our family and love to do creative activities together throughout the season! From nature exploration to sensory play we enjoy doing it all!

Here are some fun, kid-friendly activities to incorporate into your spring:

Exploring Nature

Engaging in outdoor adventures as a family can be a great way to embrace the new season!

-Take a nature sound map walk by listening to all the sounds you hear to help your kids appreciate the beauty of the earth! We love using binoculars and a magnifying glass to help find the items!

-Make a fairy garden using materials you find in nature!

-Go on a scavenger hunt to encourage curiosity and observation! Here is a print of the one we like to use!

Sensory Play

Activities that involve the senses help to engage our children’s curiosity and development!

-Put together a bumble bee sensory bin with yellow rice, dried black beans, spoons and cups. Help your children to line the bin in stripes with the yellow rice and black beans to imitate the pattern on bees. Let you children add flowers and leaves they find outside then let them enjoy scooping, pouring, and more!

-Make water blooming flowers by gathering paper towels, a permanent marker, washable markers, and a spray bottle or water dropper filled with water. Use the permanent marker to draw the stem and center of the flower, use the washable markers to draw small circles around the center of the flower then have your child use the spray bottle or dropper and watch the flowers GROW!

Build Something Together

Allowing your kids to build things helps them practice their motor skills and gives them an opportunity to let their imagination run wild!

-Build a homemade bird feeder! Simply gather some household items such as a cookie cutter, gelatin, string, needle, bowl, hot water, and bird feed.

    • Combine one pack of gelatin mixture with a quarter cup of boiling water. Mix until the gelatin powder dissolves.

    • Add around ¾ of a cup of bird feed to the mixture. Mix well.

    • Scoop out the mixture and spread to fill the cookie cutter. Be sure to pack it and fill it.

    • Once hardened, pop out the bird feed from the cookie cutter and add a string to hang the finished bird feeder outside.

Spending time with our kids in nature and getting creative with crafts is a fun way to connect and enjoy the new season together, specifically after the cold winter months!
