Travel Tips for Flying with Toddlers

During our Hawaii trip in March, we traveled on three airplanes, stayed in 3 different hotels, and went to two islands - it’s safe it say it was A LOT but so fun 😅🙌🏻 This was Evan and Elliette’s first time on a plane and they did so well!

Here are some tips that helped us and that we learned from our Hawaii trip:

  • Book an early morning flight (if possible!): I thought it would be hard to do a 7 am flight, but it was better that they were well-rested and awake when we were boarding. Also, prepare for a more complicated check-in with more luggage and car seats etc so arrive 2-3 hours beforehand!

  • Pack all the snacks!! And some surprise ones 🙌🏻

  • Give them their backpack or suitcase: they loved being part of the action and practiced their own independence by taking care of their own bags

  • Talk with them to help prepare them on what to expect with the flight

  • Bring a travel, more compact stroller if possible!

  • Pack extra clothes and plastic bags just in case! Evan spilled orange juice 20 minutes into our flight 😅

  • Bring toys and activities they’d love to keep them entertained

  • Try and be patient, flexible, and understanding. It’s a lot for a toddler to handle especially if it’s their first time, so don’t be so hard on yourself! And of course, have fun!!
